Monday - Introduce the elements of a short story - characters, setting, plot, conflict, theme, and point of view. Writing - Review the writing process and reasons for writing. Practice on topic sentences, supporting details, and concluding sentences. Introduce and assign personal narrative, page 48-52. Tuesday – Continue discussing the elements of a short story with an emphasis on plot and sequence of events.  Writing - Practice on topic sentences, supporting details, and concluding sentences. After completing a pre-write for the personal narrative: the most memorable experience in their lives, begin writing rough draft. Identify audience and reason for writing. Wednesday – Review the elements of a short story. Compare all elements (with an emphasis on point of view). Grammar - Begin discussing Verbs, page 312 - 315, Action Verbs and Linking Verbs. Complete Exercise 1 page 315, Identifying Action Verbs.

Thursday – Discuss the sequence of events in a story using the plot pyramid.  Create mini-book defining and illustrating the story elements.
