Writing – Complete an outline on a given topic.  Begin writing rough draft.  Essay requirements and prompt will be given in class. (6.2.1)
Homework - Grammar – Quiz tomorrow on combining sentences

Tuesday – Introduce various types of figurative language.  Give definitions and examples of simile (p.633), metaphor (p.633), personification (p.622), onomatopoeia (p.622), alliteration (p.620), and imagery (p.622).  (6.1.13) (6.1.18)
Grammar – Complete a quiz on combining sentences.  Begin discussing Adverbs, page 340.  Introduce the questions adverbs answer and the parts of speech adverbs modify.  Complete Exercise 17 page 340, Identifying Adverbs.  (6.2.9) (6.3.4) (6.3.8)
Writing – Continue writing rough draft of 5-paragraph essay.
Homework – Grammar – Complete Exercise 18 page 341, Identifying Adverbs and the Words They Modify

Wednesday – Grammar – Review adverbs and the questions they answer.  Check Exercise 18 page 341, Identifying Adverbs and the Words They Modify.  Complete Exercise 22 page 345, Identifying Adverbs and the Words They Modify.  (6.3.4)
Writing – Finish writing rough draft of 5-paragraph essay.  Peer edit rough draft and begin writing final draft.

Grammar - Discuss the difference between adjectives and adverbs, page 342 - 343.  Complete Exercise 19 page 343, Distinguishing Between Adverbs and Adjectives, as guided practice, and Exercise 23 page 345, Adjective or Adverb, as individual practice.   (6.3.4)
Writing – Finish final draft of 5-paragraph essay.
