Tuesday – Discuss tone and the elements of an ode. Introduce and give the definitions for the Spanish words in the poem. Read “Ode to Mi Gato” page 635 – 637. Identify examples of similes, metaphors, alliteration, onomatopoeia, personification, sensory details, and vivid verbs in the ode. Compare the tone of this poem to the tone of “Sneetches.” (6.1.10) (6.1.13) (6.1.18) (6.1.25)
Grammar – Review the difference between adjectives and adverbs. Complete Exercise 36 page 347, Distinguishing Between Adverbs and Adjectives, and Exercise C page 376, Distinguishing Between Adjectives and Adverbs, as individual practice. (6.3.4)

Read “Ankylosaurus”. Discuss rhyme, rhyming scheme, end rhyme, and internal rhyme. Identify the examples of onomatopoeia from the poem. Use context clues to identify the definitions of unfamiliar words in the poem.
