Monday - Introduce the story of the week, “La Bamba,” page 335. Introduce spelling words and define vocabulary words using context clues from the story. Review the difference between synonyms, antonyms, homophones, and multiple meaning words, giving examples of each. Discuss making predictions or forecasting what will happen next in a story. (6.1.4) (6.1.6) (6.1.18) (6.2.9)
Grammar – Troublesome Modifiers – Students will continue creating a foldable to express and illustrate the meaning of bad, badly, good and well. (6.3.4)
Homework – None
Tuesday – Read “La Bamba,” page 335-342, making predictions as you read. Go over vocabulary words from yesterday.
Grammar – Students will complete their foldable of Troublesome Modifiers and share with the class. Complete Exercise 28 page 550 – 551, Using Troublesome Modifiers, and Exercise 20 page 549, Using Troublesome Modifiers.
Homework - Book report written in class tomorrow.
Wednesday – Students will write their book report in class today. After writing the book report, students will begin illustrating their summary of the book.
Homework - None
Thursday – Students will continue illustrating their summary of the book of their choice. Review Reading Skills in the short story of “La Bamba.” Activity: Sequencing - What Happened When?
Grammar – Review Troublesome Modifiers in a whole group setting. Students will play Family Feud.
Homework – Test over Troublesome Modifiers tomorrow.
Friday – Classes were shortened due to inclement weather. Discuss elements of literature using the movie/book of the students’ choice. Test on Troublesome Modifiers will be postponed until Monday due to the change in schedule.
Homework – Have a Great Weekend!!
