We will be reviewing and pre-teaching various skills that will be tested on the TCAP Achievement Test. Please check my website DAILY, as homework and skills taught may change depending on the amount of practice needed. Thanks for your cooperation.

Monday - Begin reviewing for the TCAP Achievement Test. Reading Skills - Begin Benchmark Test #1 - Complete a section of a timed practice test. Select an appropriate title that reflects the topic of a written selection. Rearrange multi-paragraphed work in a logical and coherent order. Select the best way to combine sentences. Identify the purpose for writing (to inform, describe, explain, persuade). Identify sentences irrelevant to a paragraph’s theme or flow. Evaluate text for fact or opinion.
Grammar - Begin discussing prepositions. Read pages 352 - 353. Introduce the “Yankle Doodle” preposition song. (6.3.11)
Homework - Complete Exercise 1 on page 353, Substituting Prepositions.
Tuesday - Review for the TCAP Achievement Test. Reading Skills - Continue working on Benchmark Test #1 - begin reviewing answersSelect an appropriate title that reflects the topic of a written selection. Rearrange multi-paragraphed work in a logical and coherent order. Select the best way to combine sentences. Identify the purpose for writing (to inform, describe, explain, persuade). Identify sentences irrelevant to a paragraph’s theme or flow. Evaluate text for fact or opinion.

Wednesday - Review for the TCAP Achievement Test. Reading Skills - Finish Benchmark Test #1 - Complete the final portion of a timed practice test and discuss the answers. Review the following skills: Select an appropriate title that reflects the topic of a written selection. Rearrange multi-paragraphed work in a logical and coherent order. Select the best way to combine sentences. Identify the purpose for writing (to inform, describe, explain, persuade). Identify sentences irrelevant to a paragraph’s theme or flow. Evaluate text for fact or opinion.
Grammar - Practice the “Yankle Doodle” prepostion song. Check workbook pages 33-34, The Preposition. (6.3.11)

Thursday - Review for the TCAP Achievement Test. Reading Skills - Begin Benchmark Test #2 - Complete a portion of the timed test and begin discussing the answers. Review the following skills: Using context clues, dictionaries, thesauruses, and glossaries as aids in determining the meanings of unfamiliar words. Locate and verify information to support opinions, predictions, and conclusions. Identify stated and implied cause and effect relationships. Draw inferences from selected texts. Complete graphic organizer. Select appropriate time-order or transitional words, concluding sentences, supporting sentences, and thesis sentence for well-developed paragraphs. Identify sentences irrelevant to a paragraph’s theme or flow. Supply a missing piece of information in an outline. Rank possible research resources according to reliability. Identify the correct use of commas within context.
